Assistive Technology Eliminates Barriers - Amanda's disability prevents her from walking, writing, talking and most other daily functions. Her disability, however, does not impede her ability to learn, utilize, and develop her cognitive skills. The Assistive Technology Act of 1998 (formerly known as the Technology-Related Assistance Act of 1988) eliminates barriers for individuals with disabilities by providing tools, which will assist them with learning and improving and developing their skills regardless of their disability. Separated Parents Communicate - Communication between separated or divorced parents can be challenging. Depending on the age, health and circumstances of their child, parents will have to be in touch with each other as often as several times a day. For some parents, unresolved conflicts cause a breakdown in communication. The ties and demands of parenthood require parents to maintain a connection and communicate. S.A.R.S. - Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome - SARS is an infection in which causes a fever and then respiratory symptoms of cough, shortness of breath and difficulty breathing. The respiratory symptoms can become increasingly severe requiring oxygen and respiratory support. Other symptoms of SARS include muscle aches, headaches, and sore throat. This syndrome was first recognized in February 2003 in cities from around the world and primarily in Hong Kong. As of April 15th, the World Health Organization has reported, "3235 cases of SARS, 193 cases in the United States …" Read more… www.robynsnest.com/sars.htm
It's Tick Season: 'Protect and Check' and Get Educated - Spring has arrived, and coupled with the excitement of enjoying the warm weather outdoors is the need to take precautions against getting bitten by ticks hungry for their first blood meal. "It's going to be a bad year. The heavy snow over the winter protected the ticks from freezing temperatures, and the spring thaw is providing the moist habitat they need to thrive," said Karen Forschner, chair of the national Lyme Disease Foundation (LDF). A Worthy Woman - Mother's Day is just
around the corner, and I have to admit it: this holiday makes me ever
so slightly uncomfortable. It makes me think of the mother in the Hallmark
commercials. She is smiling. She is calm. She is helpful. She has put
the kids to bed without raising her voice. She is wearing make-up and
her hair is combed. She is worthy of honor. I sometimes have to wonder
