As I learned my new job, I also began to play on the web! I found it
a valuable resource but became very frustrated with some of the web sites
in particular, parenting information sites. You had to register, wait
for a password to use chatrooms, and I got lost looking for information
and to top it all off, much of the time it was an advertisement! It was
on one of those occasions that my cousin and mentor, Charles P. Dolan,
Jr. suggested I start my own site. With his web design help, I started
writing. (You're the best, Charles!!) Provider
Of Web Media Services At first, I started writing about my own parenting experience. But as the pages began to flow, people began e-mailing me with questions and requests for more information. I suddenly was getting 300 visitors a month and was I delighted! I decided that my own experience was good, but professionals should be consulted as well. I spoke with my son's pediatrician, my own lactation consultant and others. And so our nest was built, one twig at a time! Today we see tens of thousands of visitors a month! It's amazing to me how things grew and grew, (like my own children), the site expanded to cover their ages. Now, my oldest is 14. So, in order to learn more, I started a local television series. Robyn's Nest, The Parenting Network, that not only covers young children, but is now spilling over into elementary, middle and high school ages. It's been a wonderful and thrilling experience! I am so privileged to meet fascinating people whose work in the advocacy of children is not only of value to parents in Connecticut and Massachusetts, but families everywhere. Our wonderful experts truly care about parents and children. They all have dedicated their careers and lives to helping families in their areas of expertise. It is a great honor to work with such devoted people!
While much of the site is researched and written by me, there are a number of wonderful organizations who have contributed. I'd like to gratefully recognize the following:
But most of all, I would like to thank my children, Joey and Nicky for
their patience and support when Mommy is on the computer, for teaching
me about life through the eyes of children, and without whom, none of
this would be possible. They are my precious gift. Robyn Brown Surdel, President
