sick childHome Remedies for bronchiolitis include:

Warm fluids for coughing spasms. Sticky secretions in the back of the throat often cause coughing, warm liquids relax the airway and loosen secretions.

Clear fluids are recommended. For infants, try making formula half strength for a few feedings or give Pedialyte instead of formula.

Humidifiers or Cool mist vaporizers used in the child's bedroom are excellent. Dry air tends to make coughs worse.

Suction blocked up noses. If the nose is stuffed up, your child will not be able to drink from a bottle or the breast. Most stuffy noses are blocked by dry or sticky secretions. Use your rubber bulb suction frequently. You may put 2 or 3 drops of warm water up each nostril to loosen secretions. It is NOT recommended that saline spray or other medicinal nasal sprays be used up the nose for any prolonged period of time.

Eating can be tiring. Offer formula, fluids and breast milk in small amounts more frequently. If you child vomits during a coughing spasm, feed the child again.

Don't smoke around the baby or child and don't let anyone else smoke around your child or in your home.
