Circumcision Care

baby

When your baby is first circumcised, he will have a petroleum jelly gauze wrapped around the tip of his penis.

This gauze will fall off when he urinates. Some babies cry on the first urination after having a circumcision.

When changing the baby’s diaper, simply clean the area with warm water. You may use a gentle soap to clean stool from the area.

The penis will look red for a few days.

Apply petroleum jelly to the penis with diaper changes.

As the skin heals it may appear a little yellow at the site where the skin was cut. This is normal.

After the penis has healed, no further care is required.

Basic hygiene should always be practiced on all parts of the body.

Contact your pediatrician if:

   -   Penis has foul odor
   -   Crusty drainage
   -   Redness that persists for more than 3 days
   -   Fever over 100 degrees Fahrenheit or 38 degrees Celsius
