"My mom has been using this method to cure hiccups for as long as
I can remember. What you do is...
1. Get a glass of liquid (can be anything really, even
soda) 2. Take a deep breathe, and then very slowly let it out 3. After
you have let your breath all out, drink the glass of liquid that you've chosen
very slowly. 4. If you've done it right, they'll be gone.
Works everytime
for me!!!" ~Leanne
"Hello -- I enjoyed reading about the various remedies for hiccups. The one
that works for me is to hold my breath and then take as many smalls sips of water
(& swallowing) until I run out of air. I read somewhere that these all work
because they get your mind to concentrate on something else for a moment, which
makes sense to me!
Unrelated to hiccups, but a fun "home remedy,"
is how to stop yourself from sneezing -- place your index finger lengthwise just
above your upper lip. Works like a charm!" Karen Perkins
"My mother-in-law said to dip your finger in water and then sugar and place
on baby's tongue for a few seconds--worked w/my daughter's newborn baby born 6/21/02
(altho their pediatrician said NOT to use sugar or water (as one article recommended)....but
this DID work!!!" Clara
"Here's a real remedy no more sugar or drinking water upsidedown - where
on earth did these come from anyway????. Came across this simple remedy by accident
one day when I had the hiccups, took a long slow deep breath in and release it
slowly out, and magically the hiccups were gone, thought this might have been
a fluke so I have tried it every time I have the hiccups since and it has worked
first time every time. This remedy works and actually makes sense since I think
you are relaxing your diaphragm slowly. Try it and see for yourself. Hope this
helps all those hiccup sufferers." Belinda
" In my house, this one works the best: Put a teaspoon of sugar under your
tongue, and let it dissolve. Works every time." undisclosed visitor
"I
learned that if you swallow a mouth full of real lemon juice they will disappear
immediately." undisclosed visitor
"Quite often my daughter who is 3 years of age gets the hiccups and I'm always
trying new and different things to try to get her to stop. One of the most effective
ways that I have noticed to cure the hiccups is to get a Q-tip and rub it on the
top of the roof of your mouth. It tickles quite a bit however, works quite well.
Every time she's had the hiccups I have used either this cure or the one where
you drink upside down, but seeing as she is only 3 I don't try that one to often...GOOD
LUCK!" undisclosed visitor
"Swallow a mouthful of water while holding your ears (for a young child, hold
their ears for them). Apparently this causes a sort of vacuum reaction. Whatever
the explanation, it seems to work!" Terry
"Sit on a chair, legs slightly apart, and put your head down between your
knees. Wait approximately 2-3 min while breathing slowly. Wait at least 1 min.
after your hiccups have vanished, then sit back up...It really works." Trisha
"Have
another person keep asking you to hiccup on command. "tell me the next time
your gonna hiccup...seriously or I'll be mad." C'mon and hiccup...do it now...what
are you waiting for?" It works about 80% of the time." Trisha
"Suck on an ice cube." Trisha
"This is great for any age (and enjoyable): Down a spoonful of sugar."

"Hold your temples in while drinking a glass of water. Tricky, but it works
every time (atleast for me it does)." Erica Jordan
