Sometime
around the beginning of the eighth month, it is a good idea to think about
the items you will need to be prepared for labor and afterward. We suggest
you pack the following items in advance.
For a comfortable labor
Chapstick or Vaseline for dry lips
Water mister for moistening face with cold water (plant
sprayer or mister)
Hot compress for lower back pain
Cornstarch or massage lotion
Rolling pin for backache
Hair ties and hair brush
Paper bag (in the event of hyperventilation)
Focal Point (beautiful object to
focus on to relax)
Snacks for labor coach/partner
Camera and/or video camera (don't
forget the film, cassette or memory stick!)
Hot Water Bottle (great for back
labor!)
Phone list of friends and relatives
(Remember: hospitals do NOT
allow cellular phone usage inside as they can interfere with meidal
equipment)
Comfort after the birth
Cotton nightgown (Front opening
with buttons or snaps is easiest for nursing Moms.)
Bathrobe
Slippers
Nursing bras
Outfit to wear home from the hospital
(You will probably still fit into
your maternity clothes-don't bring clothes that fit pre-pregnancy,
they won't fit for a while.)
Personal items (makeup, toothbrush,
deodorant, contact lenses/glasses, etc.)
A bottle of witchhazel for stitches
Calendula and hypercium cream (available
at health food stores) for a sore perineum
