When introducing solids, be sure to try
a new food every 3-4 days. This will help you to detect any food
allergies.
It is suggested that meats be introduced last.
4 - 6 Months
Breast Milk or Formula
Iron Fortified Rice Cereal
(mixed with formula or breast
milk) *Start with a soupy mixture
and gradually increase thickness
as baby gets used to taking food
from the spoon.
Pureed Fruits and Vegetables
*Start with single fruits and veggies like applesauce, carrots, and peas.
6 - 9 Months
Breast Milk or Formula
Iron Fortified Cereals like Oat, Barley and Mixed (introduce one at
a time)
Pureed Meats (if your child has successfully tried all fruits and
veggies)
Soft Foods like well cooked fresh vegetables, bananas, pancakes,
macaroni, and even crackers or toasted Os cereal may be introduced. Be
sure to cut into small pieces.
9 - 12 Months
Breast Milk or Formula
Mixed Pureed Foods or stage 3 Foods
After the child has tried all food basics and simple foods, more complex foods
can be introduced. Be sure to watch for allergic reactions.
Adult Cereals
Breads or toast with butter or cream cheese *You can even let your
child try all the foods you normally eat. Just remember to cut into small
pieces.
Do not be concerned about solid foods if your baby has just a couple of teeth.
The gums are quite hard and are capable of crushing cookies, crackers
and other foods. Stay away from foods that present a choking hazard (Choking Hazard Foods.)
